3. The Blood Glucose Meter:

The specific device I use is called FreeStyle, and its web page is located at http://www.therasense.com

The following are photos of the box (front and back).

It comes with a meter, a lancing device, some test strips, some lancet, testing liquid and a pouch.

There are various glucose meters on the market.  I selected this one for two reasons:

1) Ramona recommended it.

2) As Ramona pointed out, it requires the minimum amount of blood (0.3 microliters) to measure blood glucose. I checked other devices on the shelf at a local Walgreens and confirmed this to be true.

The following photo of the back of a package shows the size of the blood bubbles required by various meters.

(No, I'm not a salesman for this company at all.  I just wanted to share my decision points.  If you find a better one, just try!  A friend of mine is currently hard at work to develop a device that will be able to measure glucose without a blood sample. I just hope it will be ready soon, and will work for dogs too.)
